Habitat for Humanity Restore

Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller and his wife, Linda, two Alabama-born missionaries that gave up their wealth to help the less fortunate when they started Habitat. The program grew out of similar missions the Fullers were involved in, and focused on a revolving fund of donations which be used towards home construction and purchasing building supplies. The donations would be paid back at 0% interest and repurposed for the next project.

The Habitat ReStore program came about as Habitat for Humanity expanded and could fund additional measures to ensure more homes could be built. ReStores are independently owned reuse stores operated by local Habitat associates. These ReStores accept donations (monetary and in the form of building goods) and sell home building and improvement items to the public at a fraction of the market retail price.
